Like many cultural venues around the world, Site Gallery in Sheffield has been looking for creative ways to allow people into its programme whilst its doors are closed. And, as somewhere that specialises in moving image, new media and performance, it’s well placed to do so. Back in mid-March, before the official Lockdown had even officially begun, Site Gallery launched WEB/SITE – an online programme of events and activity engaging with contemporary artists and ideas, which runs until 31 August.

The bill so far has been strong. You can sign up to ‘Points of Rupture’ – a reading group (born out of the gallery’s recent exhibition of the same name) that meets virtually to discuss subjects such as care, rest and productivity. Take part in live artist-led workshops, such as ‘Family TikTok Dance Choreography’ on 30 May. Catch artist takeovers on Instagram. Or dive into a series of talks by leading artists, architects, urbanists and public designers, exploring the relationship between public and creative space. How about the skateboard as a tool for better understanding our cities and resisting their shift toward becoming places in which purely capital flows?

The programme continues till the end of August, so keep visiting WEB/SITE and Site Gallery’s social media channels for more upcoming events.

A busy image created using generative AI. The image depicts a man at the centre with grey hair and rosy cheeks, surrounding him are fairies that appear to be created in his own image with multiple limbs and unique bodily proportions. Around them are hundreds of vials, microscopes and dated scientific equipment.
