Heaton Park looks set to be transformed into ‘fair Verona’ for a beautifully site-sympathetic version of William Shakespeare’s tragic love story, Romeo and Juliet this summer.

The award-winning Feelgood Theatre will take their audience on a stunning promenade performance through Heaton Park to witness the passionate, though fateful story of the young ‘star cross’d lovers’.

Romeo and Juliet will bring together a thrilling ensemble, including graduates from the acclaimed Northern Ballet School and the prestigious Manchester School of Theatre, alongside the professional cast. There will also be sword fighting and an eclectic musical score featuring sounds from the Stone Roses and French composer Gounod.

This production takes the audience on a stunning journey through the Heaton Park, witnessing the moment of love at first sight between young Romeo and Juliet and then following them as they become an overpowering force superseding all other values, loyalties and emotions. Brimming with theatrical delights, there will even be the opportunity to have an exclusive gander inside the historic Heaton Hall.

Feelgood Artistic Director Caroline Clegg says: “As stakeholder Theatre Company in Heaton Hall and Park I am delighted to be bringing our nuanced and visceral Romeo and Juliet to life which cherishes the history of the hall and park and is relevant to a contemporary Manchester audience.

This performance of Romeo and Juliet will be the perfect opportunity for families to experience high-quality open-air theatre in one of Manchester’s greatest parks. Fold-up chairs and rugs are welcomed for those wishing to sit down and picnics can be enjoyed before the performance or during the interval.

Last year’s Midsummer Night’s Dream sold out very quickly and with the weather forecast looking even brighter this year, early booking is highly recommended for Romeo and Juliet.
