There’s movies under the stars again at Tatton Park this summer as the open air cinema returns for 2025. Featuring a crowd-pleasing programme of classic hits and new favourites, this August Bank Holiday event is one of the biggest outdoor film events of the summer.
The screenings kick off with a Saturday night showing of 1978’s rock ‘n’ roll high school hit Grease. Starring early-career John Travolta and Olivia Newton John, this nostalgic star-maker transports audiences to the 1950s, with hot rods, leather jackets and sing-along tunes including “Summer Nights” and “You’re the One That I Want”.
Sunday’s screenings start bright and early as Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo head up a stacked cast in last year’s musical behemoth, Wicked. If you’ve somehow missed the hype, then look forward to discovering the untold story of the witches of Oz, everybody else will be singing along, I’m sure.

Then, there’s more child-friendly entertainment in the form of Disney’s Encanto, the 2021 musical animation set in Colombia featuring songs by Lin Manuel Miranda. Sunday’s programme is rounded out by a thunderous 1980s classic as Tom Cruise takes to the skies in Top Gun.
There are two more family oriented screenings on the Bank Holiday Monday, including a chance to revisit the eponymous green ogre in the original Shrek — DreamWorks’ post-modern take on the fairy tale that still feels fresh nearly a quarter century on from release. While Hugh Jackman leads the line as legendary circus master P. T. Barnum as The Greatest Showman ends the weekend with a bang.
As always, there will be food and drink for audiences to indulge in alongside the flicks, while audiences are asked to remember to bring a jumper as the temperature drops. Oh, and there are VIP deckchairs up front, but do remember to bring your own seating if you have a regular ticket.
