Marple’s new art space Mura Ma celebrates silk screen printing through the work of Joey Collins, in the space’s second exhibition Mechanical Confection.

The artist describes using the technique of screen printing as a method of organising the build-up of marks: “The process of screen printing allows me to control gestures made through drawing and then slowly organise my visual language into a more formal structure. Screen printing also allows me to build my images, in a way it is just like collage.

Collins’ work balances colour with line, with the artist citing Joan Mitchel, Andre Butzer and Howard Hodgkin as his inspirations. Despite the abstract, 2-dimensionality of his current work, he studied sculpture during his fine art degree and still sees space as an important element in the creation of his work.

Please note: the exhibition is open Thursday – Saturday 11am-4.30pm.
