A pioneering figure in the field of contemporary dance, Nigel Charnock is widely regarded as one of the UK’s most influential performers, choreographers and directors. Born in Manchester, Charnock worked with Lancaster-based Ludus Dance Company before co-founding DV8 Physical Theatre. He was dubbed a “national treasure” by Arts Council England and the “unreconstructed bad boy of physical theatre” by dance critics worldwide.

Following his experience of working with Charnock in 2010, Marco D’Agostin’s relationship with dance was changed forever. Now, in Best Regards, D’Agostin offers a stirring salute to his beloved and irrepressible mentor. In return, this powerful piece of dance-theatre invites the audience to also consider: what would you write to someone who will never read your words?

In a poetic fusion of text (spoken in English), song and dance, D’Agostin takes the audience on a journey through joy and exaltation, sadness and melancholy. Set on a stark white stage against a stunning LED curtain, Best Regards is a solo show propelled by emotional force and D’Agostin’s own experiences in the shadow (or light) of Charnock.

The evening of dance will be complemented by a collection of notebooks, letters, photographs and other materials, relating to Charnock, courtesy of artist, filmmaker and producer Graham Clayton-Chance in the foyer before the show. And following the performance, be sure to hang around for a post-show talk between Clayton-Chance and D’Agostin.
