In a late-night concert at Huddersfield Town Hall, British mezzo-soprano Loré Lixenberg explores Juvenal Symphony No 4, written by surrealist art pioneer Isidore Isou. Known for inventing languages and symbols that were technically meaningless, Isou’s new words took on discursive significance, shifting between extremely different types of expression. Juvenal Symphony No 4 is anything but an ordinary symphony: it is music in a new language, for a new culture.
