Block Printing Demonstration and Workshop at the Science and Industry Museum

This often looked over craft made a geographical journey from its origins in China to the Mancunian mills. It was here that the technique underwent a drastic transformation as traditional craft collided with the powerful steam looms of the industrial revolution. Hosted by the Science and Industry Museum, this workshop will give you the chance to get up close and personal with the process.
After a demonstration you’ll have the chance to get hands on with the process, printing fabric using wooden blocks containing carvings of original designs. These blocks will be covered in dye before being transferred onto the material letting you see exactly how block printing works.
