Cut at Humber Street Gallery, Hull 6 April — 19 May 2019 Entrance is free

Artists Graham Jones and Richard Houguez are both hairdressers at Open Barbers, a hairdressing service for all lengths, genders and sexualities based in North London. This residency project at Humber Street Gallery in Hull explores the themes of social expression and acts of self-care.

Visitors will be offered free haircuts from the artists, in exchange for sharing their stories as well as their offcuts of hair. With their salon at the centre of the work, both the hair and the content of the conversations will be transformed into a sound and sculptural installation as the barber’s chair becomes an axis for discussion and art making.
