Bertha : Seen & Heard at The Horsfall, Ancoats 8 — 10 May 2018 Entrance is free

Bertha: Seen & Heard is an exhibition and event programme that aims to ‘turn up’ the conversation about the history, challenges and successes of Manchester’s female curators past, present and future. Inspired by Bertha Hindshaw, who in 1912 became the first paid female curator of Thomas Horsfall’s Ancoats Art Museum, the project reveals the impact of this important and yet unknown figure. It will be presented at The Horsfall between 8-10th May 2018 by MA students of the Institute for Cultural Practices at The University of Manchester in partnership with The Horsfall.

See digitised archival material about Bertha and her role at the Ancoats Art Museum, and hear the opinions of today’s female curators, alongside new artworks produced by creatives at 42nd Street on the theme of identity and self-curation in an era of technology, social media and Instagram filters.
