Whisky Business

Christina McDermott

Whisky has suddenly become “cool”. While it has always had a special place in the heart of this booze hound, of late it appears that more and more people are embracing the charms of this magnificent (and much maligned) spirit. To Liverpool’s eternal credit, it has met this renaissance with open – and rather thirsty – arms: the Whisky Lounge’s annual event is a staple in the city’s alcohol calendar, while bars such as Jenny’s and the brilliant Berry & Rye love to celebrate a wee dram.

There’s been a exciting resurgence independent retailers in Liverpool of late and Whisky Business is a shining example of this. Whisky Business used to operate from a physical store in Fenwick Street but have since moved to pop-ups and online tastings.

What these guys don’t know about whisky, really isn’t worth knowing. They have pretty much every type of whisky, from single malt Scotches (we’re big fans of the Auchentoshan 3 Wood) and peaty Irish blends to big, brash American bourbons (because there’s more to this category than just Jack Daniels) and delicate Japanese blended malts.

They can tell you precisely what to get a whisky-loving relative when the only brand you’re familiar with is Bells, or pick out that bottle of something special when you’ve got a set budget. Sure, you could find a few of these bottles in delis and department stores if you looked hard enough, but it’s the little things that really make this business stand out.
