Soup Kitchen venue

On the corner of Stevenson Square, SOUP stands as a Northern Quarter staple that continues to evolve without ever losing its underground spirit. Formerly known as Soup Kitchen, the venue has sharpened its identity – and dropped the “kitchen” – but the blend of community, creativity and chaos remains the same.

By day, the upstairs is a laid-back bar serving affordable drinks. As the sun goes down, the atmosphere shifts. The bar gets livelier, the music kicks in, and the basement below begins to stir.

That basement is SOUP’s beating heart – a stripped-back, low-ceilinged space with a loyal following and a big sound. The venue’s programming spans live music, club nights and experimental happenings, booking everything from emerging local artists to cult international acts. It’s sweaty, intense and intimate – the kind of room where the energy is in your face and the barriers between crowd and performer all but disappear.

Manchester has no shortage of small music venues, but SOUP continues to hold its own. It’s cool without the attitude, sharp without being slick, and one of the most dependable places in the city to catch something fresh, loud and completely unforgettable.
