Well into its third decade, Chorlton’s Kingbee is one of the Mancunian suburbs’ most recognisable and popular record shops.

Run by the ever-present Les, the yellow-fronted shop on Wilbraham Road offers ‘all styles of music’ on vinyl and CD – from early rock’n’roll to Northern Soul, prog-rock to punk. Kingbee also hosts occasional special events and signing sessions, with the likes of  The Smiths’ Johnny Marr turning up to chinwag with fans.

And though it offers mail order (with its website’s stock lists regularly updated), those visiting in person are best rewarded for hours spent wading through its bountiful racks.
