Festive Live at Aviva Studios
Creative TouristFestive Live, the instrumental sister strand to Festive Voices, brings a run of free performances from local ensembles to the Social at Aviva Studios this winter.
The line-up leans heavily on the Royal Northern College of Music. Fractal, Rosamund Brass Quartet and the Innsæi String Quartet all formed there, as did a jazz quartet of final-year RNCM students. Between them they cover contemporary saxophone, prize-winning brass and genre-hopping strings. The Akiko Saxophone Quartet, meanwhile, brings classical, jazz and contemporary repertoire.
Elsewhere, Northern Lights Quartet reworks David Bowie’s catalogue as jazz, tying in with the Lightroom show David Bowie: You’re Not Alone. The Untold Orchestra, the Manchester charity known for orchestral takes on Nina Simone and Stevie Wonder, also joins the programme.
Here’s a chance to catch some of the city’s most promising young players up close. Each act has its own date, and all tickets are free but need booking in advance. We’ve rounded up every Festive Live event below.
