Poet Matt Abbott leads a free creative writing workshop for young people under the age of 26. Focusing on identity and how creativity can support wellbeing and a positive sense of self, Matt will show how you can use writing to engage in playful rebellion, challenge social stereotypes and explore the struggles of modern life.

Born in Wakefield in 1989, Matt Abbott is a poet, educator, and social and political activist. His one-man show Two Little Ducks received rave reviews when it debuted at the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe, leading to a 22-date UK theatre tour in autumn 2018 and resulting in both a studio album and a debut poetry collection of the same name, which was published by Verve Poetry Press.

Matt is also behind the organisation Nymphs & Thugs, which was formed in spring 2015 and produces national spoken word tours and ‘LIVEwire’ events around the UK. Featured artists include Salena Godden (seen at That’s What She Said), Wigan-based writer and performer Louise Fazackerley and Luke Wright (performing new show The Ballad Seller at The Edge in Chorlton on 14 and 15 October).

You can catch Matt performing at the Trouble At’ Mill festival of words at Castleford’s Queen’s Mill on 2 October, alongside acclaimed poet Toria Garbutt among others. Read our preview here.
