Factory International
Book now

Aviva Studios are bringing the circus to town! Obviously, not just any old circus, this is the Factory International programming team we’re talking about. Kalabanté Productions are bringing their explosively energetic circus show Afrique en Cirque to Manchester’s biggest, newest, shiniest venue for four nights only. Join the cast for a free dance workshop where everyone and anyone is invited to immerse themselves in the music and dance of Guinean culture.

Kalabanté is the artistic vision of multidisciplinary artist Yamoussa Bangoura. As an artist of Guinean origin, it was a long time dream of theirs to create a circus school and multidisciplinary company in African Arts. Installed in Montreal, Bangoura shares a passion for circus arts, African dance and the traditional music of west africa. This love for Guinean culture really comes through in the company’s enigmatic show.

The cast will be sharing this passion for Guinean music and dance in the Social at Aviva Studios. It’s your chance to learn from incredible artists and discover a new way of moving for joy to a soundtrack of wall to wall musical delights. Whether you’re a trained choreographer, have perfected your two steps on the many dance floors of Manchester or usually restrict dancing to weddings and Bar Mitzvahs this workshop is appropriate for all levels and ultimately a fun time with no judgement.

The dance workshop is totally free, however pre booking is required as it is likely to be a popular event. Book now so that you don’t miss out.

This event is part of The Welcome community takeover, a series of free workshops, talks and kids activities connecting people of Manchester to the venue and artists. Drop by the Social to find out more about what’s happening.

Check out the other gigs, shows, workshops and events surrounding The Big Welcome as it looks set to be a very exciting and inclusive opening of the building to the city.
