Over the course of three consecutive Tuesday evenings, Tessa Houghton will be taking beginner artists through three foundational principles of life drawing. Materials will be provided but students are welcome to bring their own if there’s something specific they want to work with.

Explore Gestural Drawing, Measured Drawing and Tonal Values in a supported, creative environment. Each week you’ll work with a different life model and use a mixture of drawing materials. Tessa will help you get to grips with pencil, charcoal, graphite and chalk as well as learning to improve the proportion and composition of your drawing. With the models, you’ll move through a mixture of quick short studies and longer more focused poses, with the pace of each session fitting the particular technique being looked at.

Whether you’re a fan of drawing and looking for a way back in after taking a break or just have a curiosity about art this course is ideal for those looking to do more than just dip a toe into their creative capabilities.

What's on:

A man (Macbeth) stands in a dark studio lit in vivid green light, with vertical neon-green light bars glowing behind him through light fog. He wears a dark suit jacket over an open-collared shirt, one hand in his pocket, and looks directly at the camera with an intense, brooding expression.
