As we start to be surrounded by deep autumnal colours, make the most of the season by taking up an artistic hobby and not letting this warming palette go to waste. Join Chelsea School of Art Fine Art graduate Louise Garman, for a journey into the world of watercolour. She’ll be leading a workshop for all abilities, in which you’ll learn how to use Watercolours.

mix colour with accurate beautiful results

There is much more to painting than just putting colour on the page. Louise will talk you through the theory behind colour wheels, the discipline involved in choosing the right tones to work with and how to mix colour with accurate beautiful results. Most watercolour projects start with a wash. There are several techniques that can be used to achieve different affects in a wash, for example wet on wet, wet on dry and dry brush techniques. You’ll be shown how to perfect each style so that you can choose what you think is best for your project.

All materials will be provided and the workshop will be useful for all levels of painter. If it’s your first time putting brush to paper, Louise will provide images, worksheets and smaller studies for you to begin experimenting and playing with watercolour. For those who are more experienced, you’ll be provided with a still life study to work into in your own way. Louise will always be on hand to offer advice, techniques and guidance so that you can grow as a painter while you work.

Learning how to use watercolours properly can unlock a world of artist expression. Something we all need as the seasons change.

Come to Swithens Farm for a great family day out in Leeds. Our farm has plenty to offer whatever age you are!Swithens Farm is a working farm. For many years now Ian and his wife Angela have built a following that they welcome in all year around. We now have a farm shop, café, playbarn and petting farm. When we first opened we only had the usual farm animals – cows, pigs, sheep, chickens and it was free entry. We now have llamas, alpacas, meerkats, rabbits, guinea pigs, donkeys and a pony.On the working farm, we breed our own cows, pigs and sheep and we sell the meat through the farm shop and the café. If you buy a sausage sandwich from the café the sausage will be from the butcher who has made the sausage by hand using our own pork. We also produce our own free-range eggs.
