Promising “100% wall to wall burgers”, the first weekend of July sees the return of the GRUB Burger Food Fair. One of our favourite independent spaces in Manchester, for countless reasons (see our full review from last year here), GRUB is about much more than a tasty burger, as a venue it’s more a community-oriented project based around pleasure and positivity. As far as the Green Quarter goes, GRUB is the standout destination for locals and more than worth a visit for residents of any of the city’s other countless quarters.

And in this case, the highlight of the weekend is without doubt the return of A Lovely Time, the always-superb live comedy event hosted by one of Manchester’s best stand-ups, Amy Gledhill.

One of our favourite independent spaces in Manchester, for countless reasons

Half of the acclaimed duo, Delightful Sausage (last seen hanging out with Harry Hill), Amy is the compere for a stellar lineup that includes major names in comedy Alasdair Beckett-King, Stevie Martin and Erika Ehler. A Lovely Time is held on Saturday evening, from 7pm.

A Lovely Time

As for the burger fest, this begins on Friday July 2nd and runs right through to Sunday 4th. Vegans should take note of the Sunday in particular, as GRUB becomes entirely plant-powered, from bar to food, environmentally friendly as far as the eye can see.

Expect burgers from local street food traders and pun-loving independent names such as What’s Your Beef, Osaka Local, What The Cluck, Bake-O-Rama and Tikka Chance On Me.

Theatre in the North

This season’s theatre is gloriously eclectic: from radical cabaret and reinvented classics to new musicals and boundary-pushing performance.
