Cinemas in Sheffield cater for all tastes, with arthouse venues sitting happily alongside big multiplex screens – including one of only two IMAX with laser projection screens in the country. The magnificent Abbeydale Picture House warrants a special mention as a 1920 cinema still going strong today, but there are plenty of great films to be found in the newer venues too. Alongside regularly scheduled programming, film fans in Sheffield should look out for the internationally renowned Sheffield DocFest which takes place every June, whilst newcomer Yorkshire Silent Film Festival is unmissable for early cinema aficionados.
