Remember that scene from Casino Royale when Bond spots Le Chiffre’s ‘tell’? Well, here’s a chance to discover a bit more about ‘tells’ in poker – otherwise known as the non-verbal behavioural clues to deception and bluffing. The Science of Gambling with Guardian Live sees psychologist Paul Seager offering up clues to whether or not your opponents are trying to pull the proverbial wool over your eyes, while mathematician Katie Steckles will equip you with the rules of probability that govern cards and dice, so that you can use statistics to your advantage.

This cabaret-style show also includes neuroscientist Nicola Ray’s explanation of what happens to your brain when gambling; Ray reveals exactly how important regions in the brain are ‘hijacked’ by games, and how they keep us playing even when we’re losing. Discover all this and more in style – there’s a black-tie dress code encouraged for the night. Good evening, Mr Bond.
