The Jacaranda, a thoroughly Scouse institution, is a legendary music venue with a rich history that dates back to 1958. It was founded by Allan Williams, the Beatles’ first manager, and quickly became a crucial spot for the city’s Merseybeat scene.
It’s located on Slater Street, in the very heart of Liverpool‘s nightlife, and remains a favourite gathering place for local musicians and creatives. Its history of providing one of the earliest platforms for bands like The Beatles to perform live is undoubtedly still a part of its lasting appeal. Today, the Jacaranda host live performances, indie and rock ‘n’ roll sets, and open-mic nights.
The club’s décor is fresh with a vintage charm – you won’t find 50-year old carpets here but you might glimpse some of John Lennon and Stuart Sutcliffe’s original murals in the basement, painted as payment for use of the rehearsal space. There’s a ground floor bar with both hot and cold drinks, from a strong cup of tea to fancy cocktails, while the basement is a space for live performance.
Over the years, the Jacaranda has expanded to include a second floor which houses Jacaranda Records, a record store and vinyl café that extends the venue’s commitment to music and community (please note that the record store opening hours are different to the bar, check the website for more info.) Today, the Jacaranda is not only a bar but also a cultural hub, embodying Liverpool’s independent spirit while attracting music fans who want to experience a slice of the city’s rich musical history.
You can also find Jacaranda Baltic in the Baltic Triangle, another record store and venue with a busy schedule of live music performances.
