It’s the last of the autumn/winter 2020 season of online events from Young Identity, Manchester’s young spoken word performance collective, who have worked in partnership with Contact for the last 10 years.
OMS will also welcome two special guests, including One Mic Stand veteran and recent International Slam-O-Vision 2020 joint champion Jardel Rodrigues.
For the last One Mic Stand of 2020, 12 poets will go head-to-head in a virtual poetry slam. Three minutes is all each contestant gets to wow the audience with their lyrical mastery and delivery. Who will win the top spot and grand £50 prize? Rory Aaron, Ari Adegbite, Ali Al Jamiri, Louise Avey, Niamh Ayrton, Fazeel Babur, Ciaran O’Brien, Christopher Brown, Ester Koch, Giovanni Reyes, Grace Tompkins and Jonny Wilson are the performers – Roma Havers, Isaiah Hull and Sharon Raymond are the ones who decide who stays and who goes.
Hosted by Reece Williams, OMS will also welcome two special guests, including One Mic Stand veteran and recent International Slam-O-Vision 2020 joint champion (Manchester tied with fellow UNESCO City of Literature Quebec in the final) Jardel Rodrigues. Jardel is described as “a fast-paced urban wonder who reels of poems like rap and is a self-confessed Grimeaholic”, serving up a taste of poetic flair mixed with musical daring and drawing on themes of growing up, crime, love and loss in pieces such as Sonnet 1 and Sewer Side Love.
