The Small World of Sammy Lee (12) + Introduction & DJ Set at HOME
Creative Tourist
The vibrant, down and dirty Soho of the 1960s lives on in British classic The Small World of Sammy Lee, featuring Bowie-inspiring actor and singer Anthony Newley as a strip-club compère. Stylishly shot by Wolfgang Suschitzky (Get Carter), the film began as a one-man television play but was expanded in light of Newley’s jack-of-all trades stardom. An evocative portrait of a Soho now lost to capitalism, Newley gives an exceptional performance as a man seemingly always on the run.
The 20:20 screening of The Small World of Sammy Lee on Fri 26 Jul will be introduced by Bob Stanley of St Etienne. Then join Bob in the downstairs bar for a post screening boogie to a specially curated Popstars on Film playlist.
