September blues can be very real, the summer is over, we’re not yet at the festive quarter of the year and for those who work around the academic calendar, this part of the year can feel a bit like a harsh return to reality. All the more reason then to push yourself, try something new and flex the creative muscles in your brain with a calming workshop. Cork and Clay have been running the perfect antidote to those post summer sads in the form of their BYOB hand building pottery workshops.

This September they’re hosting a Succulent Pot Making workshop. Walk into the light and spacious studio with a panoramic view over Ancoats, where artist and potter Nina will be waiting to welcome you in and make you feel totally comfortable to get hands on with hand building. All the artistic materials are provided but you are required to bring your own beverages, whether they’re soft or hard.

Nina is on hand throughout the evening to help you with either techniques or tips to make your Succulent pot as beautiful as it can be. Your pot building will be soundtracked with a well curated playlist of big tunes to let you fully relax into the clay and free your ideas. If you’re not feeling particularly inspired on that particular day, don’t worry, there are plenty of templates floating about in the room for you to draw from and still create something you can be really proud of.

It’s a great way to spend an evening catching up with a friend drinking and playing with the materials. For those who go on their own however, it’s also a great way to meet new people as you sit in small groups of six or eight, allowing for chat to happen around the table as you all build your clay pieces together.
