Korean cinema has never been more popular, with the likes of Bong Joon Ho and Park Chan Wook established names in the minds of UK film fans. But while Korean dramas and thrillers have done good business at the box office, Korean documentary films have not had the same exposure.

In an effort to rectify this, and provide access to some of the treasures being produced in Korea today, Showroom and The Centre for Korean Studies at the University of Sheffield have lined up a season of contemporary documentaries from an emerging new market.

From Home Ground‘s (Tue 16 April) look at the evolution of queer culture and spaces, to K-pop doc Fanatic (Sat 20 April) and autobiographical Korean War piece Defectors, film fans in Sheffield can explore modern Korea through six different titles, which taken together provide a captivating snapshot of the country and its people.
