The hugely popular musical Hamilton is coming to Disney Plus from July 3. Previously planned for October 2021, Disney have opted to bring the theatrical release to the streaming service 15 months earlier, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, the musical tells the story of US founding father (and first Treasury Secretary) Alexander Hamilton. Directed by Thomas Kail, the film is actually the stage production, recorded with the original Broadway cast in 2016.

An exciting show, and a little bit of musical magic, that we’re looking forward to experiencing at home.

This film release will be the only way to experience this 11-time Tony Award-, Olivier Award-, Grammy Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical for a while.

Politically charged, with outstanding performances and hip-hop soundtrack, there is no doubt that this filmed performance of Hamilton is one of the most eagerly anticipated releases of 2020. And although it may be some time before we are able to step inside a theatre to watch a musical, this is an exciting show, and a little bit of musical magic, that we’re looking forward to experiencing at home.
