Bee Pedal Ready is an organisation encouraging people to learn how to fix and maintain their own bikes as well as organising a host of community rides, events and bike-based activities. Their aim is to help diversify the cycling industry by giving everyone, but particularly women and girls, the skills they need to be self-sufficient bike owners with the confidence to take on more ambitious rides.

They are based throughout Manchester, popping up in sites such as Alexandra Park and Salford, where they run regular mechanics workshops and training. As a cooperative and female led organisation, Bee Pedal Ready are carving out an alternative and less male dominated environment for cyclists of all genders.

This August you can catch Bee Pedal Ready at Chorlton Water Park, leading a day of workshops and activities that will empower you to be confident fixing your own bike. Whether you’re interested in bike maintenance, cycling safety or general tips to help you get the most out of your wheels, there will be experts on hand to share knowledge, time and skills for the benefit of the whole cycling community.

In addition to the workshops, you can also join one of Bee Pedal Ready’s organised bike rides. These often start reasonably centrally and venture out to particular spots of beauty or nature. It’s easy to think, when living in a large city, that we’re quite cut off from the natural world. However, you’d be surprised how quickly and enjoyably you can escape into the wild. All cycle rides move at a sociable pace and involve a lot of chatting and laughing as well as pedalling.
