In a live music economy where arena tickets now cost hundreds, it’s worth remembering where music careers actually begin – small rooms, local scenes, and music fans who get behind the grassroots. Taking place at Jimmy’s in Ancoats, this is one of those nights: emerging Manchester artists, stripped-back sets, close listening.

At the centre is Chloe Elms, performing live versions of material from her forthcoming EP Days Go By, including upcoming single ‘The Valley’ ahead of its release later this month. It follows her 2022 EP Oblique, a lockdown-era release rooted in 2-step and house, threaded with nocturnal synths and soft-focus vocals. From the snippets we’ve heard, the new tracks carve out a space between neo-soul and alt-pop – smoky, cinematic, emotional. Songwriting that trusts mood to do the heavy lifting.

The bill around Chloe complements what she’s bringing, with a local line-up spanning soul, R&B and alternative sounds. Framed by Elms as a response to the realities of putting on live music in a densely packed neighbourhood, the night leans into specially tailored, stripped-back sets from Sam Esse, Sim Sais, Caitlin Snape and Ella Solomon, with DJ Umar Nazar keeping the room warm between performances. Hosting duties come from Kemani Anderson of Secret Night Gang, a band at the forefront of Manchester’s neo-soul scene.

Tickets are £5 via Eventbrite, with proceeds going straight back to the artists.
