Richard Dawkins is embarking on a USA and Europe tour this Autumn. The best selling author of The Selfish Gene, The God Delusion and Unweaving the Rainbow will be visiting the Lowry as part of his travels in one of only six UK dates on the tour. His impact in bringing scientific concepts to the lay population has affected millions of people to the point of fandom. Find out why this reputation is so well earned by hearing directly from the author himself.

In this tour Dawkins is opening himself up to questions from the audience about his new book, previous titles and his eclectic life as both a scientist and author. It’s a rare opportunity to hear him speak openly and candidly in person about some of the ideologically huge concepts in his writing and research.

Last year saw the publishing of his most recent literary work The Genetic Book of The Dead. Like a lot of his previous work it draws on his expertise in evolution and zoology to create an alternative narrative of how in every living creature we can read the lives of its ancestors through its genes. For example, a lizard who has perfectly camouflage to its environment gives us today an accurate picture of the environment that the lizard’s ancestors would’ve lived in.

So far this latest title has been met with a much less controversial reception than previous books such as The God Delusion. Often his work has provoked a cult following type of reaction from readers and commentators. With occasionally divisive theories, he’s a scientist who prioritises the importance of evidence over everything else.

Witness his compelling arguments on the way we view genes, life and faith as it becomes  bound together for an evening with his renowned wit, charisma and honesty. Expect to hear insightful wisdom alongside a very tangible empathy for the human experience.
