We all have dreams. Some want to be tiddlywinks world champion, others want to grow the world’s largest aubergine, and there are even those that want to be actors. For lip-sync artist Dickie Beau, his dream is a seemingly simple one: to play Hamlet.
Unfortunately for Dickie, so far that dream hasn’t come true. So Dickie did what all good dreamers do and took Yorick’s skull into his own hands. Re-member Me sees Beau become a human Hamlet mixtape, taking all the great recorded performances of the past – Peter O’Toole, Ian McKellen, Daniel Day-Lewis – and bringing them back to life through his own body.
Dickie is such a superb lip-syncer that the experience of seeing him perform is rather strange – it really does feel like he is saying the words and not simply mouthing along to them. When added to the already ghostly themes of Hamlet that equals a rather haunting experience. But there’s also less ghostly and more gossipy side to Re-member Me, such as interview extracts where actors talk about their own performance and, of course, bitch about one another.
The latest in a series of lip-syncing masterclasses, Re-member Me is certainly that: memorable.
