Literature Events in the North

Sarah-Clare Conlon, Literature Editor

From environmental to experimental, our poetry and prose picks from around the North are focused on the unusual and the fun.

In Manchester, we’re welcoming a brand-new night in the shape of SLAMCHESTER, featuring Jardel Rodrigues, while one of the oldest spoken word smorgasbords, Verbose, has a couple of unmissable guests, including Tom Sastry.

Another must-see headliner, Rosie Garland, is gracing Leeds regular Chemistry, while the city is hosting its annual Leeds Lit Fest, with plenty to pencil into your diary from that programme, including Rachel Bower and Andrew McMillan, and York’s Say Owt are hosting poet-slash-stand-up Harry Baker, with tickets selling like hot parkin.

Ecopoetry is on the menu at Manchester Poetry Library when Isabel Gallerymore and Hannah Copley get together, while collaborative avant-garde one-offs are the order of the day at the European Poetry Festival‘s final leg, taking place for the third year running in Liverpool.

Online, we’re tuning into the latest talks about the novel Ruth from Elizabeth Gaskell’s House and the launch of David Morley‘s latest anticipated Carcanet collection.

Leaf through our guides to Bookshops in Manchester and the UNESCO Manchester City of Literature, plus our literary places in LiverpoolLeeds, Sheffield and Cumbria.
