Northern Ballet presents Little Red Riding Hood
Always double check opening hours with the venue before making a special visit.

Get ready for a playful, tender adaptation of Little Red Riding Hood by Northern Ballet this October, where there exists a wolf who may not be as big and as bad as the PR campaign against him suggests. Join Little Red on her adventure as she makes friends and discovers the importance of kindness.
In Northern Ballet’s Little Red Riding Hood at the Stanley Audrey Burton Theatre, we’re introduced to a heroine who has a bit more to her than our usual girl in the red cloak. She’s kind, thoughtful, and open to the possibility that woodland strangers (even hungry, sharp-toothed ones) might have more depth than they’ve been given credit for. One day, on the way to visit to her grandmother, she meets a very hungry wolf in the forest who just wants something to eat. But is he really such a big, bad wolf? The production reminds audiences that compassion and empathy might turn even the scariest encounters into friendships.
The production is truly gorgeous, delicately combining live ballet, music and theatre. The result is a magical 40-minute performance that feels both accessible to little ones and sophisticated enough for the adults who accompany them.
At just under an hour long, the show is the ideal length of time, ending just before restless children start fidgeting and adults start glancing at their watches. Short and sweet, it’s the perfect first taste of live theatre for children and a great way to get in the mood for… dare we say it… festive season!
So, is the wolf truly wicked? You’ll have to watch the show to find out – but don’t be surprised if you leave rooting for him.
