Ruby Tingle

No Such Thing- A Portrait with Salamanders at PS Mirabel, Manchester 19 July 2019 Entrance is free

As part of Manifest Arts Festival, Ruby Tingle will present her open studio as an installation, where visitors can enter the space to listen to and observe the artist situated amongst her selected works, collected objects and live animals in a performance based upon her latest album -“No Such Thing”.

The salamander’s ability to regenerate body parts makes it a real-life ‘Hydra’. This idea has informed these new songs, which express her own period of self-rescue and regeneration after trauma. Split into two halves, the album documents the artist’s processes of recovery and transformation over the past eight years, drawing from themes of duplexity, the monstrous and the changing city around us, all of which have assisted in her recuperation.
