Manchester Collective: Intimate Letters at Islington Mill
Chris Horkan
The next outing from new performing arts organisation Manchester Collective is a performance of Inside Mr. Enderby, a song cycle to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Anthony Burgess.
Co-presented by the International Anthony Burgess Foundation (where the collective will also perform on Sunday 26 March), the piece – the first of the collective’s series of annual commissions – is written by Australian composer and conductor Huw Belling.
The evening’s programme also features Leoš Janáček’s string quartet, Intimate Letters, a ‘manifesto on love’ concerning the Czech composer’s relationship with Kamila Stösslová, a married woman 38 years his junior.
Australian baritone and Artistic Associate with Sydney Chamber Opera Mitch Riley features in both pieces, alongside the collective itself.
