I Fall Back Asleep When I Dream of You at Waterside Arts in Sale
Creative TouristSourcing images from her personal collection and other assorted web-based archives, Holly Staniforth digitally combines these disparate visual elements to build a florescent dreamscape; a space where the imagination takes over and the usual conventions of the photographic image melt away.
By layering earlier archive material from the 20th century with contemporary photographs and lacing the resulting image with neon hues, the work simultaneously points to a surrealist past and to a hyperreal digital present.
All of the pieces in her exhibition, I Fall Back Asleep When I Dream of You, at Waterside Arts in Sale, are printed using a risograph press; a 20th century printing technology that further emphasises the retro-futuristic aesthetics at play.
