Flow at Transcend Studios has a knack for creating spaces where the world’s noise fades a little. This time, the focus is on breath – not the absent-minded kind you take between emails, but the deliberate, rhythmic kind that can settle the mind and ease the body.

Led by 9D & Success Breathwork™ facilitator Nicola Gimson, the workshop uses headphones to deliver a layered experience: guided breathing, music, sound healing, hypnotic suggestion, and visualisation. The aim is simple – to interrupt old patterns, clear mental clutter, and give the nervous system a reset.

9D Breathwork - Transcend
Transcend

The “9D” here simply means layers – breathwork woven with sound, guided words, shifting tones and other sensory elements that work together to pull you deeper into the experience. Nicola blends these with neuroscience, psychology and somatic practice, creating a structure that’s safe, grounded and free of the fluff.

You might arrive wound up or distracted; the hope is you’ll leave a little steadier, a little clearer, and more at ease in your own skin. In keeping with Transcend’s ethos, it’s open to everyone – no experience needed. Just come with an open mind, and treat it as an hour set aside to see what happens when you stop, listen, and breathe.

Theatre in Manchester and the North
Theatre in the North

This season’s theatre is gloriously eclectic: from radical cabaret and reinvented classics to new musicals and boundary-pushing performance.

Detail of an abstract sculpture, with burned materials and rusty chicken wire at the centre, with rusted metal bars bent around it.
Exhibitions in the North

Chocolate fountains, beautiful batiks and medieval marginalia - this month's supersized Exhibitions Guide has it all.

Literature Events in the North

The autumn leaves might be falling already, but the harvest is plentiful as the live literature scene gets back into the swing of things after a summer break...

Cinema in the North

This month we recommend a season of Film noir, cult Australian movies and a huge celebration of DIY community cinema.
