Polly Checkland Harding

Our cultural countdown to Christmas… Today, see a stunning light installation in Spinningfields, plus Fig and Sparrow’s discounted Christmas launch.

Artist Liz West’s luminous, radiant installations have been showcased around the globe – and now, she’s created a bespoke piece for Spinningfields, in partnership with Castlefield Gallery. It takes the form of a six foot-long prism of light and colour, titled Through No.3, which is in residence linking Hardman Square and Crown Square for six-weeks. Audiences of West’s works are often moved to astonishment; don’t miss the chance to see this stunning piece. Through No.3 by Liz West, Spinningfields, 25 November – 6 January 2016, free

Luminous art and a one-off Christmas shopping opportunity

Fig and Sparrow’s official launch of its Christmas Season should also be firmly in your diary for today; the shop will be staying open until 9pm with 10% off all shop sales for one evening only. Fig and Sparrow’s stock is always exceptionally designed and well-chosen – as their specially-selected gift guide for us demonstrates. There’s almost double the usual amount of products on the shelves, with a focus on suppliers close to home, as well as old fashioned Christmas decorations like glass baubles. A real treat.
