Get it Loud in Libraries

Eleanor Friedberger at Lancaster Library, Lancaster 27 October 2018 Tickets from £10 — Book now

It’s all about the music. That’s the ethos of Get It Loud In Libraries, a unique project that produces quality gigs in unlikely live venues – libraries – up and down the country. Their programme is delivered in geographic areas that are generally outside the major metropolitan centres, with low live music provision. They seek to challenge and change perceptions of libraries and to engage new audiences, particularly young people, encouraging them to use these unique and valuable community assets. Sound interesting? Then why not check out their upcoming event at Lancaster Library on the 27 October – the place where the project first began back in 2005. Headlining will be the charming electro-pop singer/songwriter Eleanor Friedberger.

Since 2005, Get It Loud In Libraries have delivered 241 quality gigs in over 20 libraries around the north west, reaching more than 30,000 people. Some of these have featured now-huge names – Adele, Jessie J and Plan B, to name a few. These gigs showcase the best new and emerging music acts from across the world, introducing up and coming artists to new audiences. Stripping gigs of distractions, Get It Loud In Libraries’ events are intimate affairs wherein music shines above all else. Part of an exciting new tour of 12 libraries across the United Kingdom, Eleanor Friedberger’s gig at Lancaster Library is a particularly exciting one.

Friedberger is a perfect fit for this project. Since she and her brother Matt stopped making music together as naughties indie band Fiery Furnaces, she has released a string of charming electro-pop albums which have been met with a wealth of popular and critical acclaim. In recent years these have become increasingly inward-looking, with her latest album Rebound using wit and wordplay to interrogate the experiences of her day to day existence. Self-styled as an “80’s goth” record, Rebound is brimming with tunes that showcase the New Yorker’s knack for songwriting. It will be a treat to hear these laid bare in Lancaster’s beautiful library. See you between the bookshelves?
