A conversation with Marina Abramović and Maria Balshaw
Jul 15, 2009 | Comments: 0
Making the Holy Ground: Performance artist Marina Abramovic talks candidly to the director of the Whitworth Art Gallery about her work for Manchester International Festival. Marina Abramovic Presents… is a ‘long durational’ work curated by Abramovic that involves 14 of the world’s leading performance artists. Lasting four hours, each performance begins with an hour-long ‘de-programming’ session between the audience and Abramovic; after this, the audience spends three hours exploring the galleries and the performances within. A challenge to both artists and participants, Marina Abramovic Presents… has had a dramatic effect on those who have experienced it and, perhaps, the Whitworth Art Gallery itself.
