In Manchester, we’re beyond excited to feature Bad Language, back after a five-year hiatus. They promise a one-off of their open mic magic, but who knows, so did SLAMCHESTER, which is back for a second bout, featuring a stellar spoken word line-up who’ve cut their teeth on the stages of Verbose, Crooked Poets, Word Central and more.
Lighting up for an avant-garde autumn is Peter Barlow’s Cigarette with a radical showcase featuring John Goodby (also at Manchester Poets), and we’ve had our tickets (free, but book!) for ages for this season’s PN Review readings from Padraig Regan, Sinéad Morrissey and more.
In bookshopland, Blackwell’s Mcr welcomes Joanna Walsh while Dead Ink in Liverpool has Thea Lenarduzzi as a guest. Also in Liverpool, the LiPS programme continues with Deryn Rees-Jones – who can also be seen at Poets & Players, the same day as the bi-annual Northern Publishers Fair, perfect for replenishing your bookshelves.
We’re also heading for the hills – north for Verbalise in Kendal and east for a special Poetry at the Parsonage Day in Brontë country, featuring new Poetry at the Dusty Miller co-host Ian Humphreys. In York, Rise Up! sees Helen Mort on the mic and Say Owt is back on a roll. More Song brings alternative poetry to Bradford and The Leeds Library has a great Saturday afternoon lined up to launch Ian Harker’s award-winning new book alongside Chemistry host Joe Williams.
