Beech Road Chorlton, Manchester

Creative Tourist

Ask anyone what the trendiest street in Chorlton is and they’ll all give you the same answer.

Beach Road is a leafy, cosmopolitan area offering a laid-back mix of gift shops, independent outfitters, restaurants, pubs and parks. It made a bit of a national name for itself a few years ago as, allegedly, the street that sells more copies of the Guardian than any other outside London. Whether that’s true or not, it gives you a taste of the liberal attitude you’ll find here.

All in all it’s just a really nice place to visit, especially in the summer months, when the beer gardens fill up and there’s a festival vibe going on around Chorlton Green. Prop yourself outside the Horse and Jockey pub on those days and watch the world go by. You’ll find it hard to grumble.

Our top picks

97 Chorlton

97 Chorlton, 97 Beech Rd, Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Manchester , M21 9EQ - Visit now

97 is a cracking new cocktail bar on Beech Road. The candlelit ambience and dark décor create an intimate, romantic evening vibe, and the cocktail menu is really something else.

The Beech

The Beech, 72 Beech Rd, Manchester, M21 9EG

A superb boozer with a bit of an old school feel on the inside. It’s cozy in winter and one of Chorlton’s most popular suntraps come summer. Hot tip; if there’s room in the beer garden on a sunny day, try and grab a seat at the back, the sun will follow you there along with half of the punters come sunset.

Beech Road Park

Beech Road Park, Beech Road, Chorlton, Manchester, M21 9FA - Visit now

The small green park is a favorite of dog walkers and Chorlton’s famous yummy mummies and daddies, and you can see why. Plenty of space to let the pooch off the leash and a cracking play area for the nippers. When the blossom hits the trees here in spring, it’s absolutely beautiful.

The Laundrette Chorlton

The Laundrette Chorlton, 32 Beech Rd, Manchester, M21 9EL - Visit now

Not so long ago a literal launderette, this restaurant specialises in pizza, burgers and the like. If it’s traditional pizza you’re craving, might be worth a walk down to the excellent Double Zero, otherwise you can’t really go wrong with The Launderette’s something-for-everyone-menu. The outdoor seating area is incredibly comfortable and manages to stay cozy whatever the Manchester skies throw at us.

Horse and Jockey Chorlton

Horse and Jockey Chorlton, 9 Green Chorlton, Manchester, M21 9HS - Visit now

The Horse and Jockey is a popular gastro pub located at the bottom of Beech Road on Chorlton Green. A beautiful building and a Chorlton landmark, The Jockey might be lacking the personality it once had, but outdoor area and it’s views more than make up for the generic-chain-bar feel inside.
