Saan1 welcomes artist ViFong Chan with his exhibition of paintings The (#) Memories.

The work explores ideas of migration and focuses specifically on the the stories of Hongkongers who have relocated to the United Kingdom since 2020, taking a look at the emotional journey that accompanies such a life-changing decision and the new lives they are creating.

The artist uses his own story as a starting point. Visually, he takes facial profiles of the people he’s working with and combines them with a set of numbers, each picture symbolises the journey of creating a new home and new hope.  The numbers themselves tell a story; each set of numbers is a projection of personal emotions, a private little space for an individual.

57 Thomas Street

57 Thomas Street is the third outlet belonging to Manchester’s best-known microbrewery, Marble Beers. Unlike the lavish decoration of the Grade II-listed Marble Arch (which also doubles up as a brewery) or the traditional pub layout of the Marble Beer House in Chorlton, this tiny Thomas Street digs has room for just two things: beer and food.
