If you’re new to writing poems, or would like to give a new direction a go, this online class offers an engaging and inspiring journey through the delights of poetry. Run by Swarthmore Education Centre in Leeds, this course will explore a range of techniques and styles that will help you find your voice and bring your writing to life.

This course is ideal for beginners or those with limited experience, teaching you a range of poetry techniques and styles. Classes will be interactive and supportive, with time for writing and sharing feedback. Students are expected to attend all sessions, and if they can’t make it to inform the class tutor or centre as soon as possible, and you will also be expected to record your learning and progress with the support of the tutor. In some cases, homework may be set. To keep track of progress, students will complete an individual diary to record their learning each week along with an individual learning plan (ILP) after discussion with the tutor. There will be continuous assessment of progress throughout the course by observation and discussion, and students will receive verbal and written feedback from their tutor.
