The annual Manchester In Translation conference – part of the global International Mother Language Day celebrations – heads online for three days in 2022, with a series of free masterclasses and talks for budding translators and those with a passion for languages.

The popular keynote speech, this year delivered by Lawrence Schimel, an award-winning bilingual American writer, translator and anthologist.

The event is organised by Manchester-based independent publisher Comma Press, part of the Northern Fiction Alliance.

Running 22 to 24 February, this year featured activities include: panels with industry experts such as Princeton University’s Fall 2022 translator -in-residence Saskia Vogel; workshops with the likes of Rahul Bery, the British Library’s translator-in-residence 2018/19 and nominee for the 2021 Translators’ Association First Translation Prize, and the popular keynote speech, this year delivered by Lawrence Schimel, an award-winning bilingual American writer, translator and anthologist.
