Je ne sais Blah is a brand-new spoken word night at the recently revenued Cafe Blah in the heart of Withington Village. You might remember the art cafe’s recent troubles and fundraisers including Blah! Blah!! Blah!!! so it’s great to see them back!

Compèred by Blah staffer and writer Nathan Bailey – who won the inaugural Withington Book Festival short story competition in association with Greenhouse Books – this is planned as a regular monthly night, and we’re told the line-up is already sorted for the first two.

The inaugural outing features twelve invited speakers – “some first timers and some old hands” – each performing short slots of five minutes or so of prose and poetry. These include Nathan himself, Withington Book Festival short story competition runner-up and co-host of Chorlton stalwart Speakeasy Stephen Smythe, Blah! Blah!! Blah!!! organiser Sarah-Clare Conlon, frontwoman of The Strangerz and one half of Is This It? on North Manchester FM Martha Kelly and George Unitt, who will be joining Fidella Valentina on DJing duties afterwards as Reptile Box, spinning “indie, hip hop, post punk, all good stuff”.
