Fiona Crisp: Weighting Time at Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art, Sunderland 6 May — 3 September 2023 Entrance is free — Visit now

The Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art (located within the National Glass Centre) presents Weighting Time, a survey of Fiona Crisp’s 30 years of artistic practice.

In her work, Crisp focuses on  how our world view is directed and framed through the use of photography. Interested in the ontology of the photographic image, Crisp’s own photographs interrogate the very nature of being. Her projects often come from long periods of time spent capturing specific spaces, such as the Early Christian catacombs of Rome, a Second World War underground military hospital in the Channel Islands, and a Dark Matter Laboratory underneath the North Sea. The aim is for the viewer to reach out beyond their own lived experience, via Crisp’s images and installations that incorporate records of different of places.
