BlackFest Digital 2020 – Diversity Dialogues Take: 3
Carmel Smickersgill, Tours & Activities Editor
As part of BlackFest 2020, Diversity Dialogues will be starting conversations and inspiring actions around the topics of culturally decolonising areas of society. In this Talk, Dr Leona Vaughn will be joined by Ellis Eyo Thomson and Zita Holbourne to discuss conservation of Liverpool‘s Slave trade history and decolonising the way in which it’s presented.
Liverpool is one of the many cities in the UK that was built on the back of the slave-trade. Today, Liverpool possesses some of the most controversial signs, symbols, streets names and monuments, that represents a history of colonialism, segregation and racism. For years this history has been white – washed. Now is the time to lay the foundations for a more intersectional view of the city’s past, with academics, artists and activists leading the way.
The Diversity Dialogues will be live streamed events. Check out the website for the whole schedule of events.
