Holding the torch for the return of gigs around the country, Manchester promoter and label Scruff of the Neck continue to help artists and audiences reconnect via their Twitch channel, Scruff of the Neck TV. Featuring live performances and interviews with emerging and established artists, the channel has become a digital stomping ground for those looking to become part of the conversation around exciting new music.

On 28th April, Egyptian Blue and Joey Maxwell will be performing live sets and giving interviews from Scruff of the Neck’s Northern Quarter headquarters. Egyptian Blue are a Brighton-based quartet who make jolting, groove-orientated post-punk. We first caught them in 2020 supporting The Murder Capital at Leeds’ Irish Centre, where their darkly fierce tunes and blistering energy got the room moshing within minutes. Their latest EP, Body of Itch, fuses frenzied post-punk with hooky indie, and will be well-loved by fans of Squid and Shame.

South London’s Joey Maxwell is a bedroom pop artist whose music incorporates everything from alt-soul to indie to hip hop. Both a talented songwriter and a great producer, his 2020 EP Natureland was a masterclass in life-affirming, off-piste pop, replete with big old horn sections and summer-festival choruses. Now signed to Polydor, Joey’s recent single ‘Leaves Blow Over’ is a 1 minute 31 slice of addictive, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it pop, whereas his latest effort, ‘Too Much’, is a more contemplative track that explores one person’s tiny place in the universe, wrapped up in delicious leftfield production.

Both acts are well worth checking out on 28th April, when they’ll be giving full performances on the Scruff of the Neck TV stage, streamed in high quality and free to access via Twitch.
