Permission to Speak

Creative Tourist

27 November — 13 December 2020 Entrance is free — Visit now

Permission to Speak by Deaf Explorer is a new work for camera which examines the way that sign language intersects with social, political and cultural identity.

Following the 2020 theme of ‘translations’, Permission to Speak looks to interrogate the authority and power of translation.

A new work for playback on digital devices, the piece uses a mock interview-style format with each artist to uncover the intersection of diverse social and political identities relating to deafness, race, faith, gender and sexuality.

Permission to Speak will be available on recurring dates throughout the festival, from November 27 until December 13.
