Drive Thru Cinema at Middlewood Locks

Tom Grieve, Cinema Editor

29 July — 2 August 2020 Tickets from £38 — Book now

Drive Thru Cinema is new to Salford’s Middlewood Locks this summer. A brand new endeavour from the team behind The Village Screen events previously at Victoria Baths, film fans can catch a selection of recent favourites and cult classics on a giant 24ft inflatable cinema screen from the comfort of their cars. Events will be fully socially distanced, with each car provided with its own speaker system.

Food and drink is delivered in conjunction with local food trader Shoot the Bull. Audiences will be able to pre-order from the street food menu up to 48 hours before, while attendees can also order drinks, popcorn and snacks at the screenings via an online delivery service.

The series kicks off on Wednesday 29 July with Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon tearing it up in Thelma and Louise. That’s followed by Rian Johnson’s riotous neo-whodunit Knives Out (Thu 29 July) and Ryan Gosling as a stunt driver in Nicolas Winding Refn’s neon-drenched Drive (Fri 31 July). Next is Joaquin Pheonix’s take on Joker (Sat 1 Aug), before Michael J. Fox goes Back to the Future on Sun 2 Aug.
